Ask Air Canada to stop sponsoring chuckwagon races at the Calgary Stampede

The infamous Calgary Stampede chuckwagon race sees horses die almost every year, with more than 60 horses dying since 1986. Yet, Air Canada, one of Canada’s most high-profile companies, is sponsoring one of the chuckwagon teams in the race this year.

For the past decade, VHS has asked the Stampede to suspend the race and establish a panel of equine experts to determine whether the race can be made safer. The Stampede has ignored this request and horses continue to die.

Please urge Air Canada to withdraw its support for this race and set an example for other companies. They need to do the right thing and stop horses from dying.

Ask Air Canada to stop supporting chuckwagon racing

Attention: Twyla Robinson General Manager, Customer Relations & Executive Centre

Dear Ms. Robinson,

I am writing to ask you to urge Air Canada's management team to withdraw its support for the chuckwagon race at the Calgary Stampede. Air Canada's sponsorship of a chuckwagon in this year's event is a disappointment to animal lovers across Canada, many of whom are likely to be Air Canada customers.

More than 60 horses have died in the chuckwagon race since 1986, a needless loss of life. By withdrawing its support for the race, Air Canada could send an important message to the Stampede, making it clear that these deaths are unacceptable.

As a senior executive at Air Canada, you have an opportunity to bring this issue to the attention of your company's leadership. It's a chance to do the right thing and to stand up for animals.

I hope you will consider this request and save horses from dying in this dangerous event.

Sincerely,
