Fight rodeo cruelty at the Williams Lake Stampede

VHS is urging animal lovers to call on the Williams Lake Stampede to end cruel rodeo events.

Specifically, we’re calling on the rodeo organizers to eliminate the steer-wrestling, calf-roping and wild horse-racing events, as they are especially inhumane.  We’re also urging Williams Lake City Council to ban these events.

VHS is opposed to rodeo in principle but ending these events would be a major step forward in the evolution of rodeo toward a more humane form of entertainment.

As the photos (taken at the 2016 Williams Lake Stampede) on this page show, rodeo animals suffer extreme distress – all for the sake of entertainment. That’s wrong and we need the public to say so.  (A 2015 poll found that 66 per cent of B.C. residents are opposed to rodeo.)

Please email or write to the Williams Lake Stampede and the Mayor and Council of Williams Lake to politely ask them to end steer-wrestling, calf-roping and the wild horse race.

Key points to make:

Calf-roping and steer-wrestling subject animals to severe distress.  This is animal cruelty for the sake of entertainment and these events should be banned.

Virtually all animal welfare agencies are opposed to rodeo and polls show 66% of B.C. residents are opposed to the use of animals in rodeo.

In the 21st century, people want family-friendly, non-controversial entertainment, not outdated spectacles of animal abuse.
