More Mondays are Meatless!

VHS launched our new Meatless Monday program earlier this year and already we’ve helped three post-secondary schools implement the initiative in their cafeterias – Langara College, Trinity Western and BCIT. In addition, three secondary schools we presented to towards the end of the last school year are looking to add Meatless Monday to their menus in the fall. Interest in the campaign is growing and with your support we can connect with more schools to promote healthy and humane-eating options!

In the meantime, VHS has spent the summer connecting with other Meatless Monday organizers – both nationally and internationally. We’ve also begun efforts to introduce Meatless Monday within the City of Vancouver, which previously proclaimed a Meatless Monday in June of 2013.

Canadians are becoming increasingly aware of the need to reduce meat consumption. Our recent poll indicates that 33 percent of Canadians, or almost 12 million, are either already vegetarian or are eating less meat.  This an important step in the right direction and VHS’s Meatless Monday program builds on this momentum.   And remember, your help for this program means fewer animals will suffer on factory farms.
