Event Photos!

At all of our events, VHS staff and volunteers aim to create a positive atmosphere with information for the public on the simple things each one of us can do to help animals. While we do address any and all animal issues, our focus is on battery cage egg production and the goals of our Chicken OUT! project.

If you would like to get involved or participate at an upcoming event, please contact us by phone at 604-266-9744 or send an email to info@vancouverhumanesociety.bc.ca.

Henny at the 2011 Vancouver Pride Parade For our third year in a row, VHS took part in Vancouver’s annual Pride Parade on July 31st. The Parade draws a crowd of half a million people each year and serves as a great opportunity to raise awareness about the cruelty of caged egg production. Our mascot Henny once again escaped from her cage and proudly sat atop our beautifully decorated chicken and rainbow float – a 1947 Chrysler Town and Country “Woodie” owned and driven by VHS supporter Tevie Smith. Henny’s flock of chicks, hens and farmers marched along side her and reminded the public that if they buy eggs, choose cage-free eggs instead.

Vancouver Folk Festival: July 15 – 17, 2011, Photos by Cynthia Mollison

Despite the rainy weather, the crowds still showed up for the popular Vancouver Folk Festival, and many stopped by our display booth to learn about battery cages and what they can do to make a difference.

Variety Mascot Race: July 10, 2011, Photos by Cynthia Mollison

VHS’s battery cage hen mascot, Henny, made her 2nd appearance at this year’s Mascot Race at Hastings Park, hosted by the Variety Club. Henny came last in 2010, so this year she was began training early. Running free on the pasture was obviously good for her (of course!), as she improved her performance and came 2nd to last this year! Maybe with some more free range time before next year’s race she will do even better!
