The Vancouver Humane Society (VHS) is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to the ethical treatment of animals. Formed in 1984 and registered under the B.C. Society Act since 1987, the VHS supports and encourages individuals, organizations and governments to take responsibility for the welfare and rights of domestic, farmed and wild animals.
An incredible opportunity exists to lead the VHS as it continues and expands its animal protection work, including through the development of a new multi-year strategic plan. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be committed and dedicated to the VHS mission and vision and will work collaboratively with a small but highly skilled team to ensure the organization consistently achieves its objectives.
The Executive Director’s major mandate is to ensure that the organization has a long-term strategy which achieves its mission and vision and that the VHS makes consistent and timely progress on its strategic goals. Other key responsibilities include financial leadership; donor and stakeholder relations; fundraising; compliance and program development.
Working from the VHS office in Vancouver, Canada, the ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to animal protection issues and a minimum of five years’ experience in a senior or leadership position, preferably in the not-for-profit sector. Excellent communication and public speaking skills are required along with a thorough understanding of the issues, laws and policies relevant to animal protection.
